The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday marked a major achievement with its 100th mission, revealing plans to complete another 100 launches in the next five years. ISRO’s journey began with the SLV in 1979, but it was the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) that played a key role, completing 62 missions. Known for its reliability, the PSLV has been instrumental in launching satellites into Low Earth Orbits and Geosynchronous Orbits.

Following the PSLV, the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) completed 17 missions, while the LVM3, ISRO’s heaviest rocket, has launched seven missions. The Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) has completed three missions.

Notable successes include the Chandrayaan-1 mission in 2008 and the Mars Orbiter Mission in 2013, both of which were launched by the PSLV. The Sriharikota spaceport, with its two launch pads, has been the site of these groundbreaking launches. The GSLV, initially plagued by failures, has since matured into a reliable launch vehicle.
