Israeli envoy open to Modi mediating Iran peace
New Delhi
Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, has acknowledged India as a trusted ally and said he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Prime Minister Narendra Modi playing a key role in mediating peace between Israel and Iran. Azar praised PM Modi as a strong and effective leader and said India has maintained good relations with both countries.
He noted that high-level discussions recently took place between the two nations, including a phone call between PM Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Israel launched 'Operation Rising Lion' targeting Iran. Modi expressed concern and highlighted the urgent need for peace and stability in the region.
Azar said India’s ongoing dialogue with Iran and strong ties with Israel put it in a unique position to help ease tensions. India is a very good friend of Israel and has open lines with Iran too, he added.
The ambassador also called for stronger international action against terrorism and states that support it. He said Iran’s regime continues to invest heavily in weapons and regional dominance, which threatens peace. We hope India can help change this situation, Azar stated.
Meanwhile, the Indian government said it is closely watching the developments between Israel and Iran. The Ministry of External Affairs urged both sides to avoid escalation and resolve issues through dialogue. India also reiterated its readiness to support peace efforts and advised Indian nationals in the region to stay cautious and follow safety guidelines.
