Indore Metro Rail project approved by CMRS authority
Indore
The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has approved the Indore Metro Rail project, clearing the way for commercial operations, an official from Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) said on Thursday. The CMRS granted the clearance after a thorough inspection last month.
In the first phase, a 5.90-kilometre super priority corridor from Gandhi Nagar Station to Station No. 3 will become operational. This stretch includes five stations and has been designed for six-coach trains, though operations will begin with three-coach trains. Each coach can carry around 300 passengers, including 50 seated.
Trial runs on this corridor were completed in September 2023, but an official launch date is yet to be finalized. Since the corridor passes through a sparsely populated area, experts warn that passenger numbers might be low initially.
Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya stated that a passenger demand assessment will be done before launch to avoid losses.
