India’s human-focused approach to technological growth, particularly in AI, aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Technology for Empowerment, Not Exclusion, said Shobha Karandlaje, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment. Karandlaje led India’s delegation at the 11th BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting in Brasília, Brazil, where she emphasized India’s National Strategy for AI. This strategy focuses on ethical AI adoption, upskilling the workforce, and applying AI in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and education.

During the meeting, BRICS nations adopted a declaration urging inclusive AI policies that foster innovation while protecting workers. It also called for enhanced social dialogue to ensure fair transitions in the workforce amid climate change and the promotion of green job creation.

Karandlaje pointed to initiatives like ‘FutureSkills’ and the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ program, which aim to empower rural women and youth by creating tech-based livelihoods. The National Career Service (NCS) platform, powered by AI, was showcased as an effective model for bridging skill gaps and connecting people with employment opportunities.

On climate change, India highlighted its just transition framework, which ensures that green growth leads to fair job creation. The Sector Skill Council for Green Jobs (SSCGJ) and Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) were presented as key initiatives promoting sustainable practices.

India’s pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070 and its progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions were recognized, reinforcing the country’s leadership in climate action.
