Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Trinidad and Tobago from July 3 to 4 as part of his eight-day, multi-nation tour that also includes Ghana, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. This marks PM Modi’s first visit to the Caribbean nation and the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Trinidad and Tobago since 1999.

During his stay, PM Modi will hold meetings with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to strengthen bilateral relations. He will also address a joint session of the Parliament and take part in a major interaction with the Indian diaspora.

Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra said the Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago is eagerly looking forward to the visit. The country is commemorating 180 years since the arrival of Indian immigrants, beginning with the ship Fatel Razack in 1845. Today, people of Indian origin make up nearly 40–45% of the nation’s 1.36 million population.

Malhotra highlighted the close cultural ties, noting that both the President and Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago are women of Indian heritage and proud of their roots. The visit is expected to boost cooperation in sectors like health, digital infrastructure, renewable energy, agriculture, and disaster resilience.

A set of agreements is likely to be signed during the trip, enhancing academic, sports, and cultural exchange. PM Modi’s address to Parliament and interactions with the Indian diaspora will be key highlights of the visit.
