The Indian Army on Sunday clarified that there is no expiry date to the understanding reached between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan regarding cessation of hostilities. The statement came amid reports suggesting that the ceasefire arrangement between the two sides was ending Sunday evening.

The DGMOs of both nations had initially agreed on May 10 to halt all military actions for two days following intense cross-border hostilities. However, during a subsequent interaction on May 12, the two sides decided to continue the ceasefire indefinitely.

“There is no expiry date to the continuation of the break in hostilities as decided in the DGMOs’ interaction of May 12,” the Indian Army said. It also confirmed that no further DGMO-level talks were scheduled for Sunday, contrary to some media reports.

The ceasefire followed four days of military escalation, including drone and missile strikes, triggered by India’s precision operation targeting terror infrastructure under Operation Sindoor on May 7. This was in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. In retaliation, Pakistan attempted to strike Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10, which were met with strong counterattacks resulting in significant damage to Pakistani military installations. While Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar claimed the ceasefire was extended till May 18 following hotline talks on May 14, the Indian Army did not confirm these remarks. Instead, it reiterated its commitment to confidence-building measures and reducing alert levels as part of the May 10 agreement.
