Haryana and Karnataka have implemented special Covid-19 arrangements amid a mild resurgence of cases, urging the public to stay calm and vigilant.

Delhi reported 23 new cases, Andhra Pradesh 4, Telangana 1, and Bengaluru confirmed a positive case in a nine-month-old infant within the last 24 hours. Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao confirmed four mild cases in the state—two each in Gurugram and Faridabad—all under home quarantine. “No need to panic,” she said, emphasizing that the government has made necessary preparations.

Karnataka’s Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao noted a slight rise in cases, with 35 infections reported this year. He advised those with severe respiratory symptoms to get tested but stated, “There is no alarming situation.” Vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children, and immunocompromised individuals were advised to avoid crowded places.

AIIMS Rishikesh reported three new cases, including a hospital resident and a pilgrim from Gujarat; one patient has been discharged. AIIMS Director Dr Meenu Singh confirmed the current Covid variant is not severe but urged caution for those with comorbidities.

India’s health authorities are monitoring new subvariants, including NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, classified as “Variants Under Monitoring” by WHO. The dominant strain remains JN.1, accounting for 53% of recent samples. With 257 active cases nationwide as of May 19, nearly all mild, officials continue to emphasize precaution without panic.
