Gujarat releases first list for 16,597 hostel seats
Gandhinagar
Gujarat’s Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Bhanu Babariya, along with Minister of State Bhikhu Parmar, released the first merit list for admissions to government and Samras hostels for the academic year 2025–26. The list includes 16,597 selected students across 161 hostels, excluding those who applied under Science Group A.
Under the Scheduled Caste Welfare scheme, 3,902 students (2,231 boys and 1,671 girls) secured seats in 80 hostels. The Developing Caste Welfare scheme allotted seats to 2,820 students (1,855 boys and 965 girls) across 58 hostels. Samras Hostel Society admitted 9,875 students (5,322 boys and 4,553 girls) in 23 hostels.
Admissions were based on merit following document verification. Selected students have been notified via SMS. The entire process—from online applications to merit-based selection—was handled by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment.
These hostels support students from Class 11 to Ph.D. levels, offering quality accommodation and meals to ensure access to higher education for students from Scheduled Castes, Developing Castes (SEBC), and other communities. Officials including Mohammad Shahid (Principal Secretary), Rachit Raj (Director, SC Welfare), and Vikramsinh Jadav (Director, Developing Caste Welfare) attended the launch.
Gujarat’s hostel admission process is held annually through a centralized portal to ensure transparency and equal opportunity for deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their education with full residential support.
