The first trial incineration of 10 tonnes of waste from the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy began on Thursday in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, amid tight security. Around 500 police personnel from 24 stations have been deployed to ensure safety.

Supreme Court Allows Disposal

The Supreme Court refused to stay the MP High Court’s order directing waste disposal at a private facility in Pithampur. The court asked those opposing the move to approach the High Court, which is overseeing the case.

Incineration Process Underway

Officials confirmed that the waste, including pesticide residues, reactor remains, and factory soil, is being transported for disposal. Indore Division Commissioner Deepak Singh stated that the plant is equipped with a system that will automatically shut down if gas emissions exceed the prescribed limits. Scientists from state and central pollution control boards are monitoring the process.
