Firefighters to educate public on war sirens

The Director General of Police (DGP), Fire and Emergency Services, has assigned a crucial new responsibility to firefighters and Civil Defence personnel: sensitising citizens on how to respond during risky situations.

Personnel have been instructed to visit homes and create public awareness regarding war sirens and fake sirens, aiming to dispel panic and confusion. Each Civil Defence member has been tasked with reaching out to 100 to 200 individuals every week. They will explain how to differentiate between genuine alerts and false alarms, and encourage people to share this knowledge within their communities. This initiative is part of a broader emergency preparedness programme under “Operation Abhyaas,” which includes mock drills simulating attack scenarios across Bengaluru. The drills feature sirens and temporary blackouts designed to familiarise citizens with potential wartime conditions.

The move comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, with fears of a possible conflict rising. Officials emphasised that educating the public is vital to avoid unnecessary panic and to ensure an orderly response if an actual emergency occurs. By proactively training civilians through direct interactions, authorities hope to build a resilient and informed community ready to act calmly in crisis situations.

The Fire and Emergency Services department has stressed that public cooperation is crucial for the success of these efforts. Residents are urged to take the instructions seriously and spread the information further to strengthen collective readiness. Stay tuned for more updates on Bengaluru’s ongoing emergency preparedness activities.
