Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced strong new steps to stop fake Aadhaar cards in the state. On Monday, he said stricter rules will be introduced to prevent illegal immigrants from misusing Aadhaar cards. The process of issuing Aadhaar cards to adults will now be handled only by district officials called Deputy Commissioners. This change aims to close loopholes and stop fake IDs from being created.
CM Sarma posted on social media, Time’s up for fake Aadhaar cards in Assam! He said this move is part of Assam’s larger goal to become free of illegal immigrants, which he calls Infiltrator Mukt Assam. He also stressed that the government will not stop its efforts until this goal is reached.
The new policy is important because fake Aadhaar cards have been used by illegal residents to access welfare benefits, jobs, and even voting rights, threatening the state’s security and demographic balance. Assam is now the first state to centralize Aadhaar issuance for adults under district authorities, adding more careful checks.
This change will strengthen identity verification, especially near border areas and sensitive regions. Officials are asking citizens to help by reporting any suspected fake Aadhaar cards. The government says this strict action is necessary to protect law and fairness in distributing resources across Assam.
