The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) recorded a historic net addition of 20.06 lakh members in May 2025, the highest since payroll tracking began in April 2018. This marks a 4.79% increase compared to April 2025 and a 2.84% rise from May 2024, indicating stronger employment opportunities and growing awareness of social security benefits.

Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya credited this achievement to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, stating it reflects the success of youth- and worker-friendly reforms, and India’s push for a developed and inclusive workforce.

In May 2025, EPFO enrolled around 9.42 lakh new subscribers—an 11.04% increase from April. Notably, 59.48% of these were aged 18–25, with 5.60 lakh joining from this age group alone. This segment also showed a 15.10% month-on-month increase in net additions, indicating a high number of first-time job seekers entering the formal workforce.

Additionally, 16.11 lakh members rejoined EPFO in May after earlier exits—showing a 2.12% increase over April and 14.27% rise compared to May 2024. These individuals chose to transfer their previous EPFO accounts instead of withdrawing funds, reflecting improved financial planning and continuity in social security.

Female participation also rose, with 2.62 lakh new women subscribers joining in May 2025, a 7.08% increase from April and 5.84% from May 2024. Net payroll additions for women stood at 4.25 lakh—up 7.54% month-on-month and 15.04% year-on-year—highlighting a growing trend toward workforce inclusivity.
