Domestic violence, assault top crimes reported to NCW
New Delhi
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has received 7,698 complaints this year, with domestic violence, assault, and criminal intimidation being the most frequent issues. Domestic violence led the list with 1,594 complaints, making up nearly 20% of the total. This included 367 cases in January, 390 in February, 513 in March, 322 in April, and 2 in May. Criminal intimidation followed closely with 989 cases, while assault came in third with 950 complaints. Other significant concerns included dowry harassment (916 complaints), rape and attempted rape (394), and molestation (310).
Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of complaints, accounting for over 50% of nationwide cases, followed by Delhi and Maharashtra. Officials suggest the rise in complaints is due to growing awareness among women about their rights. A notable spike occurred in April 2025, with 2,123 complaints, surpassing earlier months.
