Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday in New Delhi to discuss a series of proposals aimed at boosting infrastructure, tourism, and disaster preparedness in the state.
Dhami requested the merger of Ranikhet and Lansdowne Cantonment areas with local municipalities to improve public services and promote tourism. He also sought permission for civilian use of military helipads in Dharchula and Joshimath under the RCS air service scheme. Additionally, he requested a waiver of fees for Indian Air Force support during state disaster relief operations.
Dhami appealed for continued Public Works Department maintenance of the Tharali-Dewal-Mundoli-Van motor road via Nandkesari, a key route for the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, a religious pilgrimage held every 12 years, next scheduled for 2026. The Defence Minister assured positive consideration of the proposals.
On Monday, Dhami also met Union Energy and Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, requesting special assistance under PMAY (Urban) and support for hydroelectric and pump storage projects. He sought a ₹4,000 crore viability gap fund for projects in Kumaon and Upper Yamuna regions, and ₹3,800 crore for storage projects in difficult terrains.
He urged the Centre to approve two DPRs worth ₹1,007.82 crore under the Power System Development Fund, with 100% central grant. Dhami also called for a revised grant structure for EWS housing on private land and clearer loan guidelines for beneficiaries. Lastly, he proposed extending the RRTS line from Meerut to Haridwar to reduce congestion and enhance regional development.
