Devotees throng Cauvery for Aadi Amavasya rituals
Chennai
Thousands of devotees from Tamil Nadu and nearby states gathered along the Cauvery River on Thursday to observe Aadi Amavasya, a special day to honour ancestors. Important spots like Bhavani Kooduthurai, Kodumudi, and Karungalpalayam in Erode district saw large crowds from early morning.
At Bhavani Kooduthurai, where the Bhavani, Cauvery, and mythical Amudha rivers meet, people took holy dips and offered pinda daan (ritual food) to seek peace for their ancestors. Priests and volunteers guided the devotees, who lit lamps, chanted prayers, and made offerings in the river.
Kodumudi’s Sangameswarar Temple and Karungalpalayam ghat also witnessed steady crowds. Local priests helped conduct rituals as authorities managed traffic and ensured safety, especially with the river flowing at 18,000 cusecs.
Despite the large turnout, the event went smoothly, showing the strong faith and deep-rooted traditions of the Tamil people.
