Delhi Minister Verma: Action starts against illegal meat sellers
New Delhi
Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma announced a crackdown on illegal meat sellers ahead of Navratri. During the Delhi Assembly’s Question Hour, BJP MLA Karnail Singh raised concerns about meat being sold openly on footpaths and in shops before the festival.
Verma responded that officials had been instructed to remove unauthorized vendors and urged MLAs to report encroachments in their constituencies. He assured them that action would be taken and personally monitored. Orders have already been issued to shut down illegal meat and fish-selling units.
Earlier, BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi demanded the closure of meat shops during Navratri, triggering controversy.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of double standards, questioning why liquor shops and major restaurants were not being shut down. He also alleged that while the BJP distributed Eid kits to Muslims, it targeted small meat vendors. The first budget session of Delhi’s eighth Legislative Assembly is ongoing.
