New Delhi
On Tuesday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Netherlands Ambassador to India, Marisa Gerards, attended the Tulip Festival organized by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at Shanti Path.
Saxena shared that NDMC had imported 325,000 tulips, with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) planting them across 20 parks. Additionally, 15,000 indigenous tulips were also planted in the city. He emphasized his vision of making Delhi a city of flowers, noting that this initiative was an important step in that direction. Saxena also mentioned that Ambassador Gerards had praised the government’s efforts to beautify Delhi with tulips, adding that the Netherlands and India’s friendship would continue to grow.
Gerards, speaking about the Tulip Festival, called it one of the best in the world and credited India for initiating tulip planting in the city. She reflected on the collaboration between New Delhi and the Netherlands around the G20 Summit in 2023, which led to planting tulips in the city. This year, she also planted tulips at the Dutch Embassy in Delhi to celebrate spring, sharing her excitement about the success of the project.
The event highlighted the growing partnership between India and the Netherlands while enhancing Delhi's beauty and promoting environmental awareness.
