In a significant turnaround since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed office in Delhi on February 8, 2025, the capital has witnessed a marked decline in crime across various categories. According to data shared by Delhi Police, there has been an overall 8.38% drop in registered cases in the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

From January 1 to June 30 this year, police recorded 1,18,822 cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Indian Penal Code (IPC), down by nearly 10,000 from 1,29,693 cases in 2024. Serious crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, and kidnapping have decreased by 13.13% compared to 2023, and by 10.39% from last year. However, murder cases slightly rose from 241 in 2024 to 250 in 2025. Incidents under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and rape saw a 10% decline, while molestation and eve-teasing cases fell by 11% and 12.5%, respectively. Street crimes also dropped significantly snatching cases declined by 25.97%, burglaries by 25.4%, and motor vehicle thefts by 5.98%.

Officials attributed the improvement to enhanced surveillance, strategic data-driven patrolling, community engagement programs, and targeted action against repeat offenders. The BJP, after a gap of over 26 years, secured 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly, setting the stage for this policy overhaul. The report serves as a performance marker of the new administration’s law enforcement strategy in the capital.
