Delhi CM to nominate Mohan Singh Bisht for Dy Speaker
New Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will propose BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht for the position of Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly today, the third day of the ongoing session. No other candidates are competing for the post. According to the Delhi Assembly Speaker’s office, two motions will be presented to elect Bisht. The first motion will be proposed by CM Gupta and seconded by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. The second motion will be introduced by MLA Anil Kumar Sharma and supported by Gajender Singh Yadav.
Bisht, a seasoned BJP leader, is a six-time MLA. He secured the Mustafabad assembly seat in the February 5 Delhi elections, defeating AAP’s Adeel Ahmad Khan by over 17,000 votes. Bisht has previously represented Karawal Nagar in the Delhi Assembly, first winning the seat in 1998 and serving until 2015. He reclaimed the seat in 2020.
In addition to electing the Deputy Speaker, the session will feature discussions under Rule 280, which allows members to raise issues with the Chair’s approval. The Assembly will also continue deliberating the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the regulation and supply of liquor in Delhi, which CM Gupta presented to the House on February 25.
