Delhi CM Rekha Gupta orders city-wide safety revamp
New Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched a city-wide improvement drive to boost public safety, mobility, and shelter facilities, with a strong focus on women's safety. In a recent meeting with senior officials, she directed immediate action on 4,000 dark spots—areas with poor lighting that are seen as unsafe, especially for women. These locations are now being cleaned and equipped with proper lighting.
Officials also identified 129 mobile dark spots, where poor network coverage hinders emergency responses. Gupta instructed telecom companies and departments to improve connectivity in these areas quickly.
In terms of traffic flow, 233 congestion points have been marked across Delhi. Of these, 123 fall under the Public Works Department. So far, 41 have been cleared, and the Chief Minister has set a June deadline for resolving the remaining ones.
Gupta also shared updates on the Yamuna River cleaning project, stating that work is progressing on schedule. Drains are being desilted, with hundreds of workers and machines active across the city.
After the BJP’s major win in the Delhi Assembly elections, where it secured 48 out of 70 seats, the government began a focused effort to clean the Yamuna. Since February 16, machines like trash skimmers, weed harvesters, and dredgers have been deployed. The river's pollution had been a key election issue, with the BJP accusing AAP of not fulfilling its promise to clean the Yamuna and manage flooding effectively.
