Delhi CM Rekha Gupta gets death threat
New Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's security has been tightened after a death threat was received via a phone call to the police control room in Ghaziabad late Thursday night. According to officials, the threat was made at 11 p.m., after which the caller immediately switched off the phone. Ghaziabad’s Deputy Commissioner of Police confirmed the incident and said the Delhi Police was informed through the inter-state coordination cell.
The phone number used for the call has been traced to a specific SIM owner with the help of the telecom provider, but efforts to reach the person have been unsuccessful since the device remains switched off. In response to the threat, CM Gupta’s security arrangements are being reinforced, and her upcoming public appearances may be affected as a precaution.
This is not the first time a Delhi CM has faced threats or attacks. Former CM Arvind Kejriwal was targeted several times during his tenure. In 2019, he was slapped by an autorickshaw driver reportedly upset over unfulfilled promises. In 2016, black ink was thrown at him during an official event, and earlier, a woman from a Punjab-based group had attacked him over an alleged scam involving CNG vehicle stickers. Additionally, during the February 2025 Assembly election campaign, Kejriwal had another scare when an unknown liquid was thrown at him during a padyatra in the Savitri Nagar area. These repeated incidents highlight ongoing security concerns surrounding Delhi's chief ministers.
