Delhi CM announces Rs 25 lakh compensation for storm victims' families
New Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the family of four victims who died in a tragic incident in Kharkhari village, Najafgarh. The Chief Minister’s office confirmed that the relief will be given to the head of the family, Ajay.
The four victims, including Jyoti and her three children, lost their lives when a tree, toppled by strong winds and heavy rainfall, fell on the tubewell room where the family was taking shelter. Despite quick rescue efforts from the fire department, all four were declared dead at the Rao Tula Ram (RTR) Memorial Hospital in Jafarpur Kalan. Ajay, Jyoti's husband and father of the children, suffered minor injuries and was discharged after receiving first aid.
The storm caused significant disruptions across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), with over 100 flight delays and 40 diversions due to heavy rain, thunder, and lightning. Traffic in the city was severely affected by waterlogging, especially in areas like Dwarka, Khanpur, and South Extension. In South Delhi, roads like Mehrauli-Badarpur and Sangam Vihar’s Neem Chowk were flooded, worsening the traffic situation.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Majnu ka Tilla to inspect waterlogged areas and directed immediate action to address the issue. Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma also visited Minto Bridge to assess the situation.
