Delhi Assembly to go paperless from Monsoon session: Speaker
New Delhi
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta announced on Wednesday that the upcoming Monsoon Session in July will be conducted entirely paperless. This step is part of the National E-Vidhan Application (NEVA) initiative, which promotes digital legislative processes. The transition will be made possible through the use of advanced software and mobile applications under the NEVA project.
Gupta, along with Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht and other officials, visited the Odisha Legislative Assembly to study their implementation of NEVA. Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi welcomed the delegation and shared valuable insights about the technology being used. Gupta praised Odisha’s digital model, noting that the state had learned from the experiences of others and developed an effective system.
The Delhi team explored various NEVA tools, including dashboards, apps, and digital monitoring rooms, gaining a better understanding of how technology can simplify and improve legislative operations. They also visited service centres to observe how digital solutions support smooth functioning in the Assembly.
Gupta stated that Delhi plans to adopt relevant elements of Odisha’s model and may invite technical experts from Odisha for further collaboration. He expressed a strong commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘One Nation, One Application’ vision, saying the Delhi Assembly aims to lead in digital transformation. He emphasized that going paperless would boost efficiency, improve transparency, and help protect the environment.
Concluding the visit, Gupta and his wife, Shobha Vijender, offered prayers at the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, calling the experience spiritually uplifting.
