Crocodile sighting triggers panic in Shivpuri
Shivpuri
During the monsoon, a six-foot crocodile turned up in Khod village’s farmlands in Shivpuri district on Thursday, frightening locals. Farmers found the reptile in a waterlogged field before dawn. It lay still near their huts and suddenly lunged at a jackal, dragging it into the mud. We arrive before sunrise; it could have attacked one of us, said a worried farmer.
They alerted the forest department, whose rescue team arrived and spent three hours capturing and relocating the crocodile. Although tired after its hunt, the animal fought back, lunging and snapping its jaws as rescuers used ropes to secure it.
Experts warn that rising water in small ponds pushes crocodiles into villages each year. This incident highlights the danger to farmers and villagers working early in flooded fields. Local forest officials advise people to stay cautious during the monsoon and to report any crocodile sightings right away.
