In a move to support working parents, a modern creche was inaugurated on Wednesday at the New Haryana Civil Secretariat in Sector 17, Chandigarh, by Financial Commissioner Revenue Sumita Misra. The facility is designed to offer a safe, nurturing space for children of Secretariat staff, allowing employees to balance work and parenting with ease.

The creche, initiated by Misra, is equipped with trained caregivers, medical support, play areas, and child-friendly infrastructure. During the launch, Misra stressed the need for family-friendly policies in government offices, calling the initiative an investment in Haryana’s future.

This new creche adds to Haryana’s growing network of 486 functional creches across 22 districts, serving nearly 10,000 children under the Haryana State Creche Policy 2022, which was notified in July 2023. The policy, framed during Misra’s tenure as Additional Chief Secretary of the Women & Child Development Department, is among the first of its kind in India.

District Programme Officer Savita Nehra praised Misra’s leadership in completing the project within a month. The policy ensures quality childcare through trained staff, health check-ups, vaccinations, and learning tools. It also includes a 1:25 child-worker ratio, separate dining and sleeping rooms, secure play zones, and strict safety measures such as entry cards for parents and staff.

This initiative strengthens Haryana’s commitment to creating inclusive workplaces and sets a new standard in employee welfare and child development support.
