Congress protests to awaken 'inactive' BJP govt in MP
Bhopal
The Madhya Pradesh Congress staged a protest on Thursday, accusing the BJP government of ignoring corruption and failing to address key issues. To dramatize their allegation, Congress MLA Dinesh Jain dressed as Kumbhakaran, the Ramayana character famous for his prolonged sleep.
The protest, led by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, took place in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at the legislature complex. Congress MLAs played flutes, symbolically trying to wake up the government, which they claimed was indifferent to multiple scams.
The BJP government is in deep slumber like Kumbhakaran while the state is witnessing scam after scam, Singhar said. The nursing scam, transport scam, and patwari scam have exposed rampant corruption. Youths remain unemployed, farmers struggle for fertilisers, yet the government refuses to take action or make decisions.
Congress leaders argued that the ruling party’s inaction had worsened governance, with corruption affecting essential services and opportunities for citizens. They demanded immediate government intervention to address these concerns.
Responding to the protest, state sports, youth welfare, and cooperatives minister Vishvas Sarang dismissed it as a mere publicity stunt. He stated that the government was open to discussions but accused Congress of disrupting the Budget Session for media attention.
Congress is misusing the assembly for photo opportunities instead of raising genuine issues. If they have concerns, they should present facts rather than resorting to theatrics, Sarang said.
The protest led to heated exchanges between opposition and ruling party members, highlighting the ongoing political tension in the state.
