Congress protests BJP-RSS stand on Ambedkar
Bhopal
The Madhya Pradesh Congress announced a statewide campaign on Tuesday against what it called deliberate hurdles created by the BJP and RSS in the installation of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue at the Gwalior bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Addressing a press conference, Congress leaders alleged that a systematic attempt was being made to downplay Ambedkar’s role as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. They pointed to posters recently put up in Gwalior that highlighted B.N. Rau, a constitutional advisor, as the primary force behind the Constitution, calling it a distortion of history.
Congress general secretary and state in-charge Harish Chaudhary said, “A controversy is being deliberately stirred to question Ambedkar’s contribution. This conspiracy is emerging from the RSS headquarters in Nagpur.” He added that the Congress would counter this through its ‘Jan Jagran Abhiyan’ to uphold Ambedkar’s legacy. State Congress president Jitu Patwari claimed the BJP was trying to mislead people about Ambedkar’s role and announced a public awareness campaign beginning June 23. Party workers will go door-to-door, followed by a community meal and discussions on the Constitution on June 24. Senior Congress leaders will observe a one-day fast in Gwalior on June 25.
Veteran leader Digvijaya Singh clarified that B.N. Rau was an advisor, not a member of the Constituent Assembly. He accused the RSS of historically opposing the Constitution and the national flag and claimed they now oppose Ambedkar’s legacy. Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar alleged the BJP-RSS agenda was driven by caste bias, aiming to rewrite history and incite class divisions.
