Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India used to face frequent power cuts under Congress rule before 2014, but today the country is not only generating twice the electricity—it’s also exporting it. He was speaking in Yamunanagar after laying the foundation of an 800-MW thermal power unit at the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram plant. The Rs 8,470 crore project, expected to be completed by March 2029, will help ensure uninterrupted power supply in Haryana.

He also laid the foundation stone for a compressed biogas plant in Mukarabpur under the Gobardhan scheme, which will process organic waste and promote clean energy. Additionally, Modi inaugurated the 14.4-km Rewari Bypass project worth Rs 1,070 crore, which will reduce travel time between Delhi and Narnaul by an hour.

Before Yamunanagar, Modi addressed a rally in Hisar after flagging off a flight from Hisar to Ayodhya and laying the foundation for a new terminal building at the airport.

He said the BJP’s double-engine government is moving at double speed and now with civic poll wins, Haryana is seeing a triple engine boost. He added that the government is committed to 'Viksit Bharat' and taking forward the visions of leaders like B R Ambedkar, Sir Chhotu Ram, and Chaudhary Charan Singh. Modi emphasised that industry and agriculture are both crucial for India’s growth, and the government’s Mission Manufacturing aims to generate more jobs for the poor and youth.
