Congress leader Pramod Tiwari on Monday called the stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj the biggest tragedy of this century. Speaking outside Parliament, Tiwari demanded accountability from the government, criticizing the lack of transparency about the victims' identities and the failure to release a list of the deceased. He expressed outrage over the government's indifference, saying, We see grieving families, yet no official information on the victims. Are we so desensitized that we can't even discuss this in Parliament?

Tiwari accused the government of deliberately concealing the true scale of the tragedy to avoid public outcry. He added, This is the most devastating event, yet the largest institution in the country remains silent. If Parliament stays quiet, is the government trying to cover it up? He vowed that Congress would continue fighting for justice until the truth comes to light.

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav also questioned the official death toll, claiming that thousands died during the stampede, far exceeding the reported 30. He accused the Yogi Adityanath government of attempting to downplay the crisis, alleging that many bodies were either buried on the banks of the river or thrown into the Ganga to hide the actual death count. Yadav cited eyewitness accounts to support his claims, challenging the official narrative.
