Cong MP: PM must prioritise India over foreign tours
New Delhi
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Wednesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his five-nation tour, saying the PM should prioritise India’s interests rather than focusing on foreign visits. Tiwari pointed out that no country openly supported India during Operation Sindoor, claiming that China and Turkey backed Pakistan instead. He also mentioned that former U.S. President Donald Trump did not stand with India, despite PM Modi’s past endorsement of Trump during his campaign.
You gave the slogan ‘Abki baar Trump sarkaar’, but even Trump claimed he mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The PM should focus more on national concerns, Tiwari said.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh called Modi the Super Premium Frequent Flier PM, accusing him of avoiding domestic issues. Ramesh highlighted India’s long-standing friendship with Ghana, especially the bond between Jawaharlal Nehru and Ghana’s independence leader, Kwame Nkrumah.
He recalled Nkrumah’s state visit to India in 1958-59, where he toured several key institutions and cities. Ramesh noted that Indian support helped Ghana build its Air Force and praised Nehru’s vision in founding the Department of African Studies in Delhi University in 1955, ahead of Africa's decolonisation.
As PM Modi heads for the BRICS Summit and meetings with leaders of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, Congress leaders urge him to not lose sight of pressing national matters.
