The Congress on Wednesday strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for repeatedly blaming former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru during a Lok Sabha debate. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the two leaders suffer from an obsessive-compulsive disorder when it comes to Nehru, as they constantly bring him up to distract from their own failures.

He said Modi and Shah avoid answering present-day questions and instead try to divert, distract, distort, and defame. Ramesh also mocked Shah’s historical claims, calling him the second greatest distorian, reserving the top spot for Modi, whom he sarcastically called an expert in Entire Political Science.

During the discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, PM Modi accused Nehru’s government of losing 38,000 sq km of Aksai Chin and called the Indus Waters Treaty signed by Nehru a big blunder. He argued that instead of questioning why PoK hasn’t been reclaimed, the Congress should answer who let it go in the first place. Modi claimed India still bears the consequences of past Congress mistakes.

Home Minister Amit Shah also targeted Nehru, blaming him for the existence of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He said that in 1948, India’s forces were close to a decisive win in Kashmir, but Nehru’s unilateral ceasefire halted it. Shah further claimed Nehru surrendered India’s strategic advantage by offering 80% of the Indus waters to Pakistan in the 1960 treaty.
