Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused the Election Commission (EC) of aiding the BJP in alleged voter fraud and claimed that his party has "atom bomb-level" evidence to prove it.

Speaking to reporters at Parliament, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha alleged that the EC is directly involved in “vote chori” (vote theft) and warned those complicit, from top officials to lower-level staff, that they would be held accountable. “This is treason, nothing less. You may be retired or anywhere in the country, we will find you,” Gandhi said.

"I am not saying this lightly. I am saying this with 100 per cent proof. As soon as we release it the whole country would know that EC is indulging in 'vote chori'. It is doing it for the BJP," he added.

His comments came on the day the EC published the draft electoral rolls for Bihar following a month-long Special Intensive Revision (SIR) ahead of the Assembly elections. Opposition parties have strongly opposed the revision, claiming it is an attempt to disenfranchise voters.

Gandhi said the Congress suspected voter roll manipulation in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh polls and again during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “We saw the EC wasn’t cooperating, so we conducted our own six-month investigation,” he said. “What we found is explosive. Once released, the entire country will know the truth.”

Opposition leaders have demanded a discussion in Parliament on the Bihar voter roll revision and have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on the matter.

Separately, Congress has planned a major protest in Bengaluru on August 5, led by Rahul Gandhi, to expose alleged voter roll tampering in Karnataka.
