CM Rekha Gupta Highlights Bold Steps for Cleaner Capital
New Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday reaffirmed her government's commitment to making the city pollution-free and eco-friendly. In a post on X, she stated, We are rapidly switching public transport to electric vehicles, reducing pollution while offering clean and affordable transit to Delhiites.
She also said that dust pollution at construction sites and along key roads is being managed through the use of smoke guns and sprinklers. We’re using modern technology to clean the city’s air, Gupta added.
Emphasizing green efforts, she spoke about the ‘Ek Ped, Maa ke Naam’ campaign, which encourages people to plant trees in honor of their mothers. This has become a social movement. Our aim is to turn Delhi into a healthy, green, and globally admired city, she said.
In an earlier post, the CM also outlined broader goals for the Capital — better healthcare, smarter education, improved infrastructure, and public safety — all guided by good governance and service to the poor.
Her remarks came a day after Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh visited Nehru Park to assess scientific solutions for Delhi’s first Clean Air Zone. A pilot project is testing outdoor air purifiers to create cleaner air pockets, especially during poor AQI days.
If successful, similar zones may be developed in high-footfall areas like Connaught Place and Khan Market through CSR support, avoiding public financial burden.
