CM Fadnavis orders judicial probes into Beed and Parbhani incidents
Nagpur
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced two significant judicial inquiries on Friday. One will investigate the rising lawlessness in Beed district, fueled by crimes, extortion, and land mafia activities. A retired judge will lead the enquiry into the ecosystem in Beed. The second probe, led by an Inspector General-rank police officer, will focus on the murder of young sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. Both investigations will be completed in 3-6 months, with regular police drives to curb crime in Beed.
Fadnavis also ordered the transfer of the Beed Superintendent of Police due to mishandling the situation following Deshmukh’s murder and announced a Rs 10 lakh aid to his family. The CM explained that Deshmukh’s killing was linked to extortion activities involving the Avada Green company.
Fadnavis further revealed plans to invoke the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against those responsible for the violence in Beed. Regarding the Parbhani incident, he announced a judicial enquiry into the death of Dalit youth Somnath Suryavanshi, clarifying that footage and medical reports contradict claims of police brutality. Additionally, Rs 5 lakh aid was announced for the family of Dalit activist Vijay Wakode, who worked to restore peace after the violence.
