Class 5 girl dies after jumping from hostel
Hyderabad
A Class 5 student named Sandhya died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of her hostel building in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, Telangana, on Monday. The incident took place at the Jyothibapule Hostel in Tupranpet under Choutuppal mandal.
Sandhya, who came from Mahbubnagar, had reportedly been forced by her parents to join the hostel and was unwilling to stay. She took this extreme step just a day after being enrolled. She died on the spot. Her body has been sent for an autopsy, and police have begun an investigation to understand the exact reasons behind her death.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He blamed the Congress government for failing to provide safe and healthy conditions in Gurukul hostels, saying that poor food quality and lack of basic facilities were pushing children to such tragic ends.
KTR claimed that 90 students from Gurukul hostels have died for different reasons so far, yet Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has remained silent. He warned that if such incidents continue, the government could face strong backlash from parents.
In another incident on the same day, 35 students at a tribal girls’ residential school in Mudigonda, Nalgonda district, fell ill due to suspected food contamination. The students complained of vomiting and diarrhoea and were taken to a government hospital in Devarakonda for treatment.
