Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan has received a death threat via social media, where an unidentified individual threatened to attack him using a bomb. The threat has prompted swift action from law enforcement agencies.
Following the incident, the party’s chief spokesperson, Rajesh Bhatt, lodged a complaint with the Patna Cyber Crime Police Station on Friday night. The case has been registered under Section 66-F of the Information Technology Act, which pertains to cyber terrorism, and Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), related to criminal intimidation.
Authorities have heightened security around Paswan and launched an investigation to trace the origin of the message and the person responsible. The sender’s identity remains unknown at this stage, but officials have stated that digital forensics experts are working to track the IP address and device used.
Political leaders from various parties have condemned the threat and expressed concern over the increasing frequency of such online intimidation against public figures. Party supporters have also urged the central and state governments to ensure Paswan’s safety and bring the perpetrator to justice swiftly. The incident has sparked debate around the need for stronger cyber surveillance and enforcement mechanisms, especially concerning high-profile individuals who often face targeted threats online. Authorities have not ruled out political motives behind the message, and further updates are expected once preliminary findings are submitted by the cyber cell.
