Chaos in Bengal House as BJP walks out over violence
Kolkata
BJP MLAs walked out of the West Bengal Assembly on Thursday after Speaker Biman Banerjee rejected their adjournment motions related to recent violence in Murshidabad and Maheshtala. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari raised the Murshidabad issue, while BJP MLA Puna Bhengra highlighted group clashes in Maheshtala. The Speaker declined both motions, citing that the Murshidabad matter was under judicial review and the Maheshtala case was not appropriate for discussion at the moment. In protest, BJP legislators shouted slogans against the TMC government and staged a walkout. They later marched to the governor’s residence to express their dissatisfaction. State ministers Chandrima Bhattacharya and Sashi Panja criticized the BJP's actions, calling their slogans and flag-waving in the assembly unparliamentary and inappropriate. The incident reflects the ongoing tension between the ruling TMC and BJP over law and order issues in the state, particularly concerning political violence.
