Budget Session of Parliament adjourns sine-die

The Budget Session of Parliament for the year 2025, which began on January 31, concluded on April 4. After an initial phase of discussions, both Houses went into recess on February 13 and reconvened on March 10 to allow standing committees to study the demands for grants from various ministries and departments.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, during a press conference, informed that there were 26 sittings in total—9 in the first part and 17 in the second. President Droupadi Murmu addressed both Houses on January 31, marking the beginning of the session.
The Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address saw extensive participation—173 members in Lok Sabha and 73 in Rajya Sabha. The Union Budget 2025–26 was presented on February 1, followed by detailed discussions in both Houses.
Key demands for grants, including for the Railways, Jal Shakti, and Agriculture ministries, were discussed and passed. The Finance Bill and multiple Appropriation Bills, including those related to Manipur, were also cleared.
Important legislations like the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, the Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill, the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, and the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill were passed.
Overall, 11 new bills were introduced and 16 bills were passed by both Houses. The productivity was notably high—about 118% in Lok Sabha and 119% in Rajya Sabha—making this a significant and effective session of Parliament.
