The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision directing the Telangana Assembly Speaker to decide within three months on disqualification petitions filed against 10 BRS MLAs who defected to the Congress party.

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), one of the petitioners, thanked the Supreme Court for protecting India’s democratic values. On social media, he wrote, “We thank the Honourable judges for ensuring democracy isn’t weakened by unethical methods.”

KTR directly addressed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, reminding him of his promise to support strong anti-defection laws. “I dare you to stand by your words, Mr. Gandhi,” KTR said. He urged Gandhi not to misuse the Speaker’s position to delay justice.

He accused the defected MLAs of switching parties illegally and said they were already participating in Congress-led programs. KTR called upon BRS workers to prepare for by-elections. “We have three months to get ready for the polls in 10 constituencies,” he posted.

BRS MLC K. Kavitha also welcomed the court’s move. She said Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar must now act quickly to follow the Supreme Court’s order.

“The order to take quick action on defections without long delays is a good step,” she told reporters. BRS Deputy Leader in Parliament, Vaddiraju Ravichandra, called the court’s directive “historic” and said it would surely lead to by-elections.

He also urged the Speaker to respect the Supreme Court’s direction and act promptly.

The BRS sees this as a step toward justice and hopes it will protect the values of the Indian Constitution.
