Bodies of Kenya crash victims reach Kerala

The bodies of five Keralites who died in a tragic bus accident in Kenya were flown to Cochin International Airport on the morning of June 15, 2025. The remains were brought in via a Qatar Airways flight from Doha and were received at the airport by Kerala Industries Minister P. Rajeeve and other officials.
The deceased were part of a group touring Kenya when the fatal accident occurred on June 9. The victims have been identified as Jasna (29), a native of Muvattupuzha, and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Roohi Mehrin; Geetha Shoji Isaac (58) from Cherukol near Mavelikara; Riya Ann (41) and her seven-year-old daughter Tyra Rodrigues from Kanhirampara, Mannoor, in Palakkad district.
After necessary formalities, the bodies were transported by ambulances from the Nedumbassery airport to the respective hometowns of the victims. Family members, relatives, and local residents gathered in large numbers to receive and pay their final respects.
The Kerala government, in coordination with Indian embassy officials in Nairobi and the Ministry of External Affairs, ensured the swift repatriation of the bodies. Minister Rajeeve expressed condolences to the bereaved families and said all necessary support would be extended to help them cope with the tragedy.
The accident in Kenya has sparked conversations around the safety measures taken by travel agencies operating international tour packages. Authorities are expected to initiate discussions on implementing better safeguards for Indian tourists traveling abroad. Further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway in Kenya.
