BJP's Shweta Saini, Sirsa file Delhi nominations
New Delhi
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates Shweta Saini and Manjinder Singh Sirsa submitted their nominations for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on Thursday, accompanied by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The deadline for filing nominations is January 17, with scrutiny set for January 18, and the last date for withdrawal is January 20.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa is contesting from the Rajouri Garden constituency, while Shweta Saini is running in Tilak Nagar. Both constituencies are currently held by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members. Saini will challenge AAP's Jarnail Singh and Congress's PS Bawa, while Sirsa faces off against AAP’s Dhanwati Chandela and Congress’s Dharampal Chandela.
Jarnail Singh has represented Tilak Nagar since 2013, winning the last three elections. Sirsa won Rajouri Garden in a 2017 bypoll but lost to Dhanwati Chandela in 2020.
Earlier, Khattar criticized former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of neglecting the city’s infrastructure over the past 10 years. Khattar expressed confidence that Delhi residents are ready for a change and that BJP will win the upcoming elections. The Delhi Assembly elections will be held on February 5, with vote counting on February 8.
