BJP's Raja Iqbal Singh named MCD mayor
New Delhi
BJP's Raja Iqbal Singh was elected as the new Mayor of Delhi on Friday, with a clear victory after the AAP boycotted the election and Congress held a marginal presence. Singh received 133 votes, and BJP councillors celebrated the win.
As the newly elected Mayor, Singh pledged to address Delhi's sanitation issues, aiming to tackle garbage piles, waterlogging, and other basic infrastructure needs. He emphasized working together with dedication to improve the city’s living conditions.
In his address, Singh thanked the people of Delhi for the opportunity to serve, vowing to focus on cleanliness, including streets, drains, and waterlogging issues. He criticized the lack of development in the city over the past years.
Previously, AAP leader Shelly Oberoi remarked that the BJP now holds control over the Centre, the state, and the MCD. She urged the BJP to fulfill its promises to the people and assured that AAP would remain a constructive opposition, holding the government accountable.
