BJP leader, aide arrested for daughter's rape
Haridwar
In a shocking development, a BJP leader and her boyfriend have been arrested in Haridwar for allegedly facilitating the repeated sexual assault of her 13-year-old daughter. The horrific ordeal came to light when the minor bravely confided in her father, who immediately filed a police complaint.
The police have registered a case under stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including gang-rape and criminal intimidation, along with relevant sections of the POCSO Act. Anamika Sharma, the mother, and her boyfriend, Sumit Patwal, were apprehended from a hotel on Wednesday after a medical examination confirmed the girl had been sexually assaulted. Authorities are now searching for Sumit's accomplice, Shubham.
Anamika Sharma previously led the BJP Mahila Morcha's Haridwar district unit, but has since been stripped of her party membership following the allegations. According to police, the 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped multiple times between January and March this year in various locations, including Haridwar, Agra, and Vrindavan. These horrific acts were reportedly committed by her mother's boyfriend and his aide, both in their thirties, with the mother's full knowledge and presence. The perpetrators also allegedly threatened to kill the girl's father if she dared to reveal the abuse. Anamika had separated from her husband and was living with her boyfriend in his hotel. The ongoing investigation aims to bring all involved to justice.
