The BJP on Friday criticized the Congress, claiming the party is using programmes like ‘Save the Constitution’ as a cover to save its own existence. The remarks came ahead of a Congress rally in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and KC Venugopal were set to address the public.

Senior BJP leader Biranchinarayan Tripathy said Congress is losing public support with each election, noting that the party has failed to cross the 100-seat mark in the last three Lok Sabha elections. He claimed the 'Save the Constitution' rally is more of a ‘Save Congress’ event.

Tripathy accused the Congress of lacking internal democracy, being controlled by the Nehru-Gandhi family, and having a history of weakening the Constitution, including amendments made during the Emergency in 1975, when many opposition leaders were jailed.

He further stated that unlike the past, the Modi-led Union government has provided strong support to Odisha in development and funding. He criticized former PM Manmohan Singh’s alleged remark, “Is money growing on trees to give to Odisha?” saying it reflected the Congress's neglect of the state.

Tripathy also demanded an apology from Kharge for what he called insulting President Droupadi Murmu, a tribal leader from Odisha, after Kharge mistakenly referred to her as Murma ji during a public event.
