In a bold and shocking incident in Bidar city, two bike-borne robbers shot and killed one security guard, seriously injuring another, and made off with Rs 93 lakh in cash from an ATM cash van on Thursday. The attack took place in broad daylight in front of the State Bank of India (SBI) Main Branch.

The robbers, who were following the cash van, ambushed the vehicle in front of the bank. They threw chilli powder on the guards before opening fire. One guard, Giri Venkatesh, died instantly after being shot, while the second guard, Shivakumar, sustained critical injuries. Doctors reported that Shivakumar's condition remains extremely critical. The robbers fired five rounds and looted the cash from the van, escaping with Rs 93 lakh.

Investigation Underway

The Bidar Superintendent of Police (SP), Pradeep Gunti, quickly arrived at the scene to oversee the investigation. CCTV footage of the incident has been obtained, and a manhunt is underway to capture the culprits. The robbers, dressed in black jackets and masks, were riding two motorcycles and were seen carrying backpacks. Despite attempts by locals to stop the robbers, including throwing stones at them, the culprits managed to escape.

According to the police, the robbery was well-planned. The robbers had done a reconnaissance of the area and knew the exact timing of the CMS cash delivery vehicle's arrival. Police suspect that outsiders from another state may be involved, as country-made firearms were used during the shooting.
