IndiGo announced on Friday it has signed an initial agreement with Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) to develop a new maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Bengaluru’s international airport. Under the deal, BIAL will allocate around 31 acres for IndiGo’s MRO infrastructure, supporting the airline’s expanding fleet.

The upcoming facility will service both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, enhancing IndiGo’s maintenance capabilities and strengthening its operational base in Bengaluru. CEO Pieter Elbers called the partnership a strategic step toward boosting aviation growth in Bengaluru and expanding IndiGo’s global presence.

BIAL’s MD and CEO Hari Marar described the collaboration as a strong indicator of Bangalore Airport’s rise as a major aviation hub, thanking the Karnataka government for its support.

The agreement also covers joint efforts in network expansion, infrastructure development, and marketing. With over 400 aircraft, IndiGo expects the dedicated MRO to improve aircraft availability, reduce maintenance costs, and speed up turnaround times. The new facility will further bolster Karnataka’s aerospace and defense sector.
