Bangladesh under attack, international community must intervene: Rabbi Alam
Kolkata
Dr. Rabbi Alam, the Vice President of the United States Awami League and close aide to exiled Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, expressed concerns over the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh. Speaking in Kolkata, Alam described the situation as an attack on the country, urging the international community to intervene. He emphasized that what is happening in Bangladesh is not a political uprising but a terrorist uprising.
Alam also thanked India for providing shelter to many of Bangladesh's leaders, including Sheikh Hasina, and expressed gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring safe travel for Hasina. He highlighted that India’s support has been crucial during these challenging times.
Alam showed confidence in Hasina’s eventual return as Prime Minister, stating that while the younger generation in Bangladesh has made mistakes, they were manipulated and not entirely at fault. He also urged the Bangladesh Advisor to step down, believing Hasina will reclaim her position.
In a separate development, a Dhaka court recently ordered the seizure of Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi residence and several other family properties, along with 124 bank accounts, following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The court’s decision comes as part of ongoing legal proceedings against Hasina's family.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs lodged a protest with India regarding Sheikh Hasina's statements on social media, accusing her of inciting instability. The country also requested India take action to stop her from making what it described as false and inflammatory comments.
