On the opening day of the Budget session, the Delhi Assembly passed resolutions honoring the Indian cricket team for winning the Champions Trophy and NASA astronaut Sunita Williams for her safe return to Earth after a nine-month stay at the International Space Station (ISS).

India became the first team to win the Champions Trophy three times, securing victory over New Zealand in the final on March 9. Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta praised captain Rohit Sharma and the team for their dedication and exceptional performance. He also expressed gratitude to International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah for successfully organizing the tournament.

Additionally, the Assembly acknowledged astronaut Sunita Williams’ bravery, recognizing her resilience in facing the challenges of extended space travel. Gupta commended Williams and her fellow astronauts for their determination and courage, highlighting their significant contribution to space exploration. He also appreciated NASA’s efforts in ensuring their safe return.

Williams, along with astronauts Nick Hague, Butch Wilmore, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, returned to Earth last week aboard SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft. Their return was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, but they successfully landed in the sea off the coast of Tallahassee, Florida.

The Assembly’s resolutions celebrated both achievements, showcasing India’s continued excellence in sports and the remarkable advancements in space exploration. The session emphasized the importance of recognizing global contributions in various fields, inspiring future generations.
