Arunachal to install AI cameras statewide for security: Minister

The Arunachal Pradesh government will gradually install AI-enabled cameras in all towns and cities to enhance public safety, Home Minister Mama Natung announced.
He mentioned that AI-powered CCTV cameras are already being placed at 22 check-gates along the state’s borders with Assam and Nagaland. These cameras will monitor movement and prevent the entry of restricted items. Natung reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening law enforcement and security measures.
To support the police force, the government recently granted ‘Special Grade’ promotions to 3,558 personnel from the Arunachal Pradesh Police, Arunachal Pradesh Police Battalion (AAPBn), Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn), and Fire and Emergency Services. The state cabinet approved this on October 28 last year, covering constables, head constables, and assistant sub-inspectors, including those in motor transport and telecom units.
The state budget has also allocated funds for upgrading police infrastructure. This includes improving the Second Armed Police Battalion Headquarters in Aalo and setting up a forensic centre at the Police Training Centre in Banderdewa. Additionally, new fire stations will be established across districts by 2029, with several to be completed this year.
To combat drug abuse, the government is implementing the Mukhya Mantri Nasha Mukti Yojana. Efforts include running five de-addiction centres, forming the Arunachal Pradesh Drug De-Addiction Society, and planning a rehabilitation centre in the Itanagar Capital Region.
Addressing police manpower shortages, especially in Tirap, Changlang, and Longding, Natung stated that 3,000 new police posts were sanctioned last year, with recruitment in progress. He also proposed uniform allowances and better facilities for police personnel, particularly for women officers.
