Army begins ‘Operation SHIVA’ for Amarnath Yatra safety
New Delhi
The Indian Army has launched ‘Operation SHIVA 2025’, a major annual security initiative to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the Shri Amarnath Yatra. This year’s operation is especially important due to heightened threats from Pakistan-backed proxy groups after Operation Sindoor.
Over 8,500 troops have been deployed along both the northern and southern Yatra routes. The Army is working closely with the Civil Administration and Central Armed Police Forces to create a multi-layered security system, including anti-terror measures, corridor protection, and real-time monitoring.
Advanced tools like over 50 counter-drone systems, high-resolution PTZ cameras, and live drone feeds are being used for surveillance. Unmanned aerial vehicles and continuous monitoring are helping track movement and detect threats early.
The Army is also providing strong logistical support. This includes engineer teams for track repairs, over 150 medical personnel, mobile hospitals, oxygen booths, emergency food for 25,000 people, and tent cities. Helicopters are on standby for quick emergency response.
Dedicated communication units, bomb detection squads, and electronic support teams have also been deployed. The Army’s disaster relief capability has been strengthened to support civil authorities in any crisis.
‘Operation SHIVA 2025’ highlights the Indian Army’s firm commitment to protecting pilgrims and ensuring a secure and peaceful spiritual journey for all devotees heading to the holy Amarnath cave.
